Maternal Pelvic Health

We are excited to announce a new program for pregnant women and new moms in the Fairfield County area - The Maternal Pelvic Health Center.

Under the direction of two urogynecologists, Drs. Brian Hines and Katherine Sandhu, and a perinatologist, Dr. Tracy Shevell, this center focuses on the prevention, early detection and treatment of pelvic floor problems that are associated with pregnancy.

We know that conditions such as urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence and vaginal pain are very common and can usually be managed with a combination of muscle reconditioning and behavioral modification.

The Maternal Pelvic Health Center supports women in several ways:

EDUCATION

SUPPORT

  • Monthly support groups at various hospitals throughout Fairfield County. Lunch is provided and a different topic is presented to start each meeting.
  • Online support community. Join our discussions on Facebook and Twitter. Share your experiences and meet other women from throughout Fairfield County with similar issues.

PELVIC FLOOR EVALUATION AND PHYSICAL THERAPY

When appropriate, women are evaluated by a urogynecologist, Dr. Brian Hines or Dr. Katherine Sandhu, and are given an individualized program of pelvic floor physical therapy.  The physical therapy program is supervised by Leanne Stone, RN.  Leanne has 8 years of experience directing a busy program of pelvic floor physical therapy.

All educational and support services are provided free of charge.  Charges for consultations and physical therapy are submitted to a patient’s insurance company.  We are proud to participate with most major insurance carriers including medicaid.
